Program Highlight: California Prevention Training Center

The California Prevention Training Center (CAPTC) has been a partner of Heluna Health for nearly two decades, a relationship that began in 2006 when Heluna Health helped CAPTC secure a grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Heluna Health now provides CAPTC with administrative support including accounting and human resources, so the organization can focus on its critical work serving clinicians and healthcare professionals.

“I think our partnership with Heluna Health is one of the best models in our state, if not in the country”, shares CAPTC Director, Dana Cropper. “Working with Heluna means we are much more agile and can get things done quicker. We work together very closely and the team at Heluna has really been with us every step of the way, making sure that we have all the support we need.”

Heluna Health is committed to providing all our partners with consistent, high-quality support. “We take care of the financial, administrative, and operational work behind the scenes so that our partners, like CAPTC, have the capacity to focus on making an impact for the communities they serve”, says Peter Dale, Heluna Health’s Chief Program Officer.

California Prevention Training Center (CAPTC) Staff

Founded in 1989, CAPTC began as a clinical STD training center, delivering comprehensive technical assistance and training to healthcare providers and clinical staff. Now, the organization continues to grow in response to emerging public health needs and provides an array of capacity-building services to the public health sector in the United States and around the world.

Last year, CAPTC delivered webinars and training sessions to over 9,600 individuals, ensuring that attendees are up to date with the latest best practices. Additionally, the organization’s Disease Intervention team has continued to collaborate with the CDC, developing national curricula used by states to train health department staff. CAPTC has also launched Coming Together for Sexual Health, a podcast that explores the “how” and “why” behind advancing sexual and reproductive health.

“We have a shared philosophy of public health, and we believe that everyone deserves to live their best lives in an environment that’s free of stigma and discrimination”, says Cropper. “Heluna Health is one of our strongest partners and I know there are even more opportunities for us to grow together. With our combined expertise, I know we’ll be successful”.
