Celebrating Climate Leadership: Jo Kay Ghosh, PhD, MPH Honored by the American Public Health Association

Heluna Health’s Director of Research and Evaluation, Jo Kay Ghosh, PhD, MPH has been recognized by the American Public Health Association (APHA) with an Excellence in Climate Leadership Award, honoring her impactful work at the intersection of climate change, public health, and equity.

This national award celebrates individuals whose creativity and commitment drive meaningful progress toward climate solutions that promote health equity. In recognizing Ghosh, APHA’s Center for Climate, Health and Equity commended her commitment and passion, noting that her work exemplifies the kind of leadership that helps shape climate policy, engagement, and action to justly address the needs of all communities.

Since creating Heluna Health’s Climate and Environmental Health Research Program in 2023, Ghosh has spearheaded research on household-level preparedness for climate-related disasters such as wildfire smoke, extreme heat, storms, flooding, and power outages. Her work bridges science, community engagement, and policy, translating research into real-world solutions for those most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.

Ghosh shares, “Equity has long been at the center of my work in environmental epidemiology research and air pollution policy. I’ve seen firsthand how policies can uplift the voices of the most impacted communities and create positive changes for all residents. I continue to pursue research that identifies critical gaps and develops programmatic opportunities to bridge them.”

“This recognition from APHA is a powerful affirmation of Jo Kay’s leadership and the impact of her work,” said Peter Dale, Interim CEO & President of Heluna Health. “Her commitment to community-driven, evidence-based climate solutions reflects the values we uphold as an organization. We’re proud to see her efforts recognized on a national stage and are inspired by the difference her research continues to make.”

Heluna Health congratulates Jo Kay Ghosh on this well-deserved honor!
