Black women are dying from pregnancy complications at three or four times the rate as white women. In California, Black infants are dying at about twice the average rate of other infants. The health care system must move from one that devalues Black women to one that centers their voices. Canto explores how the “California Momnibus Act” aims to address maternal and infant mortality. It extends Medi-Cal coverage for a year postpartum and includes doulas.
